Bill and Elva

"November 27th, 2010,

I want to share with you about a dear couple whom visited for several weeks. There names are Bill and Elva. How dear they are! Mission builders are what they are ;] Here to serve unselfishly for the kingdom of God. I took a quick liking to them both, yet especially to Elva. She resembled my own grandma so very much. I suppose it wasn't the way they looked but was their ever caring and gentle spirit that pulls one in. My favorite times were spent in the kitchen, baking and preparing lunches for our students. I call these my favorite times because I got to know Elva better (and Pat <3! Bless her heart! But she's another wonderful story.) Elva's words always seemed to be something I was thirsty for hearing or learning. She was a breath of fresh air. Most of the time it was her quiet strength and trusting faith that I observed and want to own as she does. Bill on the other hand, he had a jovial expression almost all the time. Whether he was staring off into the Arkansas horizon before our meals, or prepping a room for painting Mr. Bill always had a genuine ready smile. That's something him and his wife shared; a gentle spirit and a smile to melt anyones sorrows. Bill took to calling me Becky. A name in which only few are seldom allowed to get away with. And I'm tellin' ya, nothing has worked quicker to my heart than these two. "Becky" seemed to be the most endearing thing I have ever heard.

Soon after their son's visit with his biker buddies (comprised of a worship leader, pastor, associate pastor and their son) they were faced with the tragic death of Doug, the associate pastor whom prayed that very morning a most precious prayer of praise to our Father before breakfast. "Oh gracious Father ...." and something about living our lives for Him the rest of our days and what an honor it was. Such love for God in his voice. His passing was instant in an accident several hours later.

Watching the strength Bill and Elva exuded I summed could only be that of God. Though shaken there was more concern for the family of this man and their own son whom witnessed it all. It was a shock and yet God was still praised despite the cruelty some would want to point out.

The very night before leaving was the night before last; Thanksgiving. I couldn't bring myself to leave the table from these two couples (again just one more story with the others.) I felt like a beloved grandchild when I was around, and was treated as such. haha, I even got to lick the bowl of fresh whipping cream clean! I loved making them laugh, I didn't have to try, but simply being loved by my personality was so refreshing <3 .... "

My hope is that everybody would have somebody like them in their lives, even if it's just for a short time. There is something in everyone that has a need to be cherished and thought of so highly. I really would love this for you~
